CodeScientist and Salesforce MVP Amber Boaz shares her favorite things in the Salesforce Winter ’17 Release.

Winter is coming! Yeah, I know, that joke is a bit overplayed, but still relevant given Winter ‘17 is coming to an org near you in a few short weeks. Here are some of the highlights:

Call a process from another process

Within Process Builder you’ll be able to call a process from another process! Coders have been able to do this forever, but now adminelopers can reuse logic without having to recreate it. Just build an invocable process, and you can call it from multiple processes or from multiple action groups in the same process. It’s a beautiful thing!

Inline edit records in List Views

There’s been lots of talk about feature parity between Lightning and the Aloha UIs. One feature that is well loved and was sorely missed was the ability to inline edit records in List Views. With Winter ‘17, it’s now possible! Huzzah!

Horizontal navigation is back

When Salesforce’s navigation moved to the left side, folks got more than a bit confused. Yes, it matched the navigation in Salesforce1, but muscle memory takes a long time to undo! Lament no longer! Horizontal navigation is back and better than ever! From each tab, you can create a new record, go to a recent record, or go to a recent list view.

See Chatter comments in real time

Have you ever typed a brilliant Chatter comment and clicked Comment only to see that someone else was just as brilliant but a bit more quick? How annoying! With Winter ‘17, you’ll see Chatter comments in real time. No more making the same joke twice!

Push upgrades to managed packages

For our ISV friends, there’s new functionality coming around push upgrades to managed packages. To quote the release notes Partners will be able to…

“Make SOQL queries to find active package subscribers, schedule push upgrades to subscribers, monitor the upgrade status, and list errors.”

Because these upgrades are represented as records, you can, of course, create reports and dashboards on the data.

This is just the beginning! There’s so much more to explore and learn about in the Release Notes. If you need a distilled version, there are tons of resources in the sidebar of the Release Readiness & Feature Adoption group in the Success Community. Happy reading!
