Dow Jones

Key Problems Solved

  • Delivered a Lightning Certified Product within three months
  • Streamlined interface and improved performance for better usability

The Background

Founded in 1882, Dow Jones started as a local business news agency and has grown to one of the world’s leading business and financial news and insight providers. With trusted, quality news and information from around the globe, its brands include The Wall Street Journal, Dow Jones Newswires, Barron’s, MarketWatch, and Financial News.

With the Factiva service, a global news database and research platform, Dow Jones saw an opportunity to provide premium company insight and news to sales and marketing professionals in the tool they use most often, Salesforce. Motivated by the need to get to market quickly, Dow Jones came to CodeScience for our expertise and deep relationships with Salesforce.

The Science

During our early conversations with the Dow Jones team, Salesforce announced that applications needed to be Lightning Certified. The bonus? By focusing on building on Lightning, Dow Jones would have greater access and appeal on the AppExchange and its app would be much easier to install and use on any device.

As we began the discovery process with Dow Jones, it became clear that ensuring its app was Lightning certified and Lightning-ready were paramount. Having previously built an app internally for the Classic view on Salesforce, the Dow Jones team understood that it was important to have the application look and function like any other native Salesforce application to optimize usability.

In our recent State of AppExchange Partners report, we found that Lightning outranks any of the other platform features in Salesforce. However, that was not the case during our build for Dow Jones. With this project being one of our earliest Lightning conversions, we were among the first to establish best practices and processes using these new components.

The Results

Within three months, CodeScience helped build and launch Factiva on the AppExchange. And the team’s focus on Lightning paid off. We delivered an app that not only looked and felt like Salesforce, but the performance of the app was faster and more reliable.

Whether you’re a long time partner or just now evaluating the Salesforce ecosystem, we would love the opportunity to help you build for success.
